Engagement and outreach is a core value at CRC. We believe that educating young people about the work we do is the most valuable and efficient way of us spreading awareness amongst the community.
We have a school dive club which is made up of more than 50 students from schools on the island. Our coral nursery at Eel Valley is maintained and run exclusively by these student divers and CRC staff members.
We also have a Youth Diving Program, which offers subsidised SCUBA training and coral restoration training to students who would not be able to fund the training themselves. This allows us to broaden the group of children we are engaging with on the island and to offer the opportunity to children from all backgrounds.
Our engagement programs don’t stop at the water. By conducting land workshops with local schools and youth groups, we are able to engage children with the importance of the oceans and the significance of coral reefs, without getting wet!
